Created in 2001 as a Class Project of Leadership Lake Norman, the Junior Leadership Lake Norman Program includes students from both Public and Private School and can accept Home-schooled students as well. Similar to the adult program, the program is eight-months long and requires both permission of parents and the school as well as an Essay “What Does My Community Mean to Me and What Leadership Can I Provide to Improve My Community in the Future?”
Junior Leadership kicks off with a reception at the Chamber with the participants, Directors of the Chamber, Leadership Lake Norman Alumni, and various elected municipal officials. This is followed by a one-day retreat combining team building and diversity training. The pro-gram continues for eight months in one-day sessions.
Area leaders in business, government, media, education, health care, and tourism enlighten the participants about the resources, infrastructure, and facilities available to Lake Norman citizens. During each session the group will look at topics ranging from crime and law to community infrastructure. The program culminates with a graduation and development and execution of a class project designated by the group.
