This month’s Lake Norman Chamber Focus Friday will examine a controversial issue being discussed across the nation – Gun Control. Local and federal authorities have long wrestled with how to strike the balance between the right to bear arms, guaranteed by the Second Amendment and that of Public Safety, particularly in light of mass shootings taking place across the United States.
North Carolina Representative Christy Clark, Democrat Representing the #98th District, is an ardent supporter of Gun Control and has sponsored several bills in the North Carolina General Assembly: H86 Gun Violence Prevention Act, H454 a Bill to Allow ERPOs to Save Lives & Prevent Suicides, H464 Permit Req'd/Assault Weapon & Long Gun, H815 Firearm in Unattended Vehicle/Safely Store, and H842 Register Assault Weapon & Report Lost Firearm.
Speaking on Gun Rights is Brian Sisson, former Huntersville Mayor Pro tem and Co-owner of Range at Lake Norman / Range at Ballantyne. Sisson has been a Federal Firearms Licensee for nine years with three different licenses, a National Range consultant to projects in Wichita KS, Richardson TX, Morganton, NC, Clemson, SC and serves on the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) Range advisory council. In addition, he is a NRA Range advisor, NSSF Range development conference presenter, and NRA Certified Pistol Instructor.
Focus Friday is a public policy program of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce which examines community and legislative issues from multiple perspectives. While intended for Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce members and community leaders, guests are welcome by RSVP to the Chamber at 704-892-1922.
The program is presented by Novant Health - Huntersville Medical Center and sponsored by Business Today and WSIC 100.7 FM. The program will be moderated by Public Policy Assistant Chair Jeff Tarte. Tarte is the former NC Senator for District #41.

About our Speakers
North Carolina Representative Christy Clark – District #98
Christy Clark was raised in a family dedicated to volunteerism and community service. For the five years before she decided to run for office, she dedicated herself to public service. Leading efforts on gun violence prevention with Moms Demand Action and serving as their North Carolina Chapter Leader for two years were where she focused the majority of her volunteerism. Through her work with Moms Demand Action she spent many hours in the General Assembly working with legislators on both sides of the aisle, attending committee meetings and sessions of the House and Senate. Christy says she saw firsthand how citizen’s voices could impact the legislative process. Those experiences moved her from advocate to candidate to NC House Representative of District 98.
Through her professional experience as a North Carolina certified intellectual property and business law paralegal, she helped many small business owners and entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground. Rep Clark worked with the Secretary of State in North Carolina and saw how having policies that are welcoming to small businesses ensure the success of start-ups and entrepreneurs. Working with a wide range of individuals and businesses from all across the state has given her the insight into what is needed to grow a business.
Representative Clark received her undergraduate degree in English at Roanoke College and Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Duke University. She and her husband, Chris, reside in Huntersville. Together, they have five children.
