This Friday, August 16th from 8:30-10 am, the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce will focus on Education. The event features Rhonda Cheek, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools – District #1; Karen Bentley Chair of the Huntersville Education Options Study Commission; and Huntersville Mayor Pro tem Melinda Bales – Co Chair Lake Norman Education Collaborative.
CMS recently tapped Earnest Winston as the District Superintendent with the departure of Dr Clayton Wilcox. District Representative Rhonda Cheek will discuss the changes at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as well an update on school programming.
Also attending from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools are Dr Matt Hayes, Northeast Learning Zone Supt and Dr Marci Beard, Northeast Learning Zone Exec Director.
Karen Bentley who chaired the Educational Option Committee will discuss recommendations from their committee and Melinda Bales who co-chairs the Lake Norman Education Committee will highlight projects the collaborative is working on to prepare students for their career and vocations and how the collaborative is assisting area educators.
The August Focus Friday will be moderated by former North Carolina Senator Jeff Tarte who serves on the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
Focus Friday is a public policy program of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce which examines community and legislative issues from multiple perspectives.
