Our North Mecklenburg Firefighters were recognized recently at a luncheon held by the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce on October 19th. The 12th Annual Public Safety Luncheon was held at NorthStone Country Club and attended by slightly more than 80 business and elected leaders.

Davidson Mayor John Woods joined Davidson Fire Chief Reuben ?Bo? Fitzgerald along with Lake Norman Chamber Board Chair Jay Lesemann and Chamber President Bill Russell.

Recognized by the Chamber of Commerce was Davidson Fire Department Captain Steven Pritchard.

Chief Fitzgerald states? ?For most of our employees, the Davidson Fire Department is a second means of employment, as most work full-time jobs with other departments. Anyone who has ever managed a part-time workforce knows that one of the greatest challenges in doing so is finding motivated employees willing to take ownership in the organization. Over the years, the DFD has been blessed with a dedicated corps of firefighters and officers, always willing to go above and beyond to ensure that our citizens receive the very best in fire and rescue services.

For the past four years, one of the members who has exemplified this spirit of service and sacrifice is Captain Steve Pritchard.

When Captain Pritchard joined the Davidson Fire Department as a part-time Firefighter in 2013, he quickly established himself as one of the DFD?s most active and dependable firefighters. After just three years, Captain Pritchard was promoted to the rank of Captain. Since then, he has served as both a logistics officer and as a training officer. In addition to his duties with the DFD, he also serves as a full-time Captain with the Charlotte Fire Department, and as a member of the North Carolina Helo Aquatic Rescue Team.

It is rare that you will see Captain Pritchard sitting idle around the station. Whether working on equipment, making a presentation to citizens, helping out with hiring processes, or training with other members, Captain Pritchard consistently does the little things to make the DFD a better organization. As his Fire Chief, I am extremely grateful for his service? Not only to Steve, but also to his loving wife, Kimberly, who puts up with it all!?

For these reasons and more, Captain Steven Pritchard is the Davidson Fire Department?s Officer of the Year.

The Lake Norman Chamber, and our nearly 1,000 business members, congratulates Captain Pritchard..

The program was Presented by Wells Fargo Bank. Sponsors included Lake Norman Publications - The Herald Weekly, WSIC 100.7 FM, and Central Piedmont Community College - Merancas Campus.
