Paul Cameron to Keynote Lake Norman Chamber Annual Banquet - January 18th 6:30 pm at The Peninsula Club

On Friday, January 18th at 6:30 pm Chamber officers and members will gather at The Peninsula Club in Cornelius to celebrate this past year of accomplishments and reward key individuals, businesses, and organizations who set the benchmark in the Lake Norman region. The prestigious Cashion Business Person of the Year as well as the Duke Citizenship & Service Award will be presented.

Pic 1 Paul CameronThe theme for the evening is “Connect * Engage * Inspire” and features Guest Speaker Paul Cameron, recently retired from WBTV after a 37-year career with the station serving as News and Sports Anchor. An award winning veteran of 42 years, Cameron makes his home in Cornelius with his wife Jan. He won the UPI national Best Sports award and numerous other awards for motorsports, golf and tennis coverage. In 1996, Cameron became prime news anchor for WBTV News at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm. He was sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba after the 9/11 attacks to cover US Marines from North Carolina guarding Taliban prisoners. He has interviewed a number of dignitaries and presidents including George W. Bush and Barack Obama in the White House. In his 22 years as news anchor, Cameron earned “News Anchor of the Year” by Creative Loafing and other publications.

Joshua Dobi, 2018 Board Chair states, “the Chamber Gala Event is an exciting opportunity to hear from our local business leaders and community professionals as we reflect on 2018 and look forward to the exciting things ahead for our Lake Norman region. We are also thrilled to hear from retiring WBTV anchor and Charlotte institution, Paul Cameron – a fixture in our region’s living rooms through his television broadcasts for nearly four decades.”

Entrepreneurship will continue to be a focus for the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce in 2019 as the Chamber works with SCORE and Central Piedmont Community College to promote business incubation and development in the lake region. In addition to Cameron’s remarks, the Chamber will again present The McIntosh Law Firm Passion to Succeed (Entrepreneur of the Year) Award. The award is presented annually by firm founder and past chamber chairman Bob McIntosh.

The program includes remarks by Dobi as well as the induction of new Board Chair Tricia Sisson from Cornelius.
